Most free Halloween events in Los Angeles come with a catch, and the catch is usually a form. RSVP, show ID, put on a costume, and the cover charge disappears. This guide prints the catches up front.
Halloween lands on a Saturday, so the weekend things to do in Los Angeles are mostly spoken for. One pick below is all ages and in daylight, one is a Sunday morning walk, and the rest are late-night RSVP parties. We checked every detail against an event page or listing on Oct. 26 and we say where a page wouldn’t open for us.

The only all-ages option: Boonion Station at Union Station
If you want free events in downtown LA that work for kids, teens and the people who raised them, start here. The seventh annual Boonion Station takes over the South Patio at Los Angeles Union Station on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free and Secret Los Angeles reports that tickets aren’t required.

The lineup is trick-or-treating (a “Treats-on-Track” activity with Metro TAP and LAPD), face painting and crafts, balloon artists and stilt walkers, a make-your-own-monster table and a Monster Poetry Booth from Metro Art. DJ Keyon plays family-friendly music. The costume contest has four categories: kids 12 and under, tweens and teens, adults 18 and older, and families or duos.
Getting there is the easy part. The Metro A, B, D and J lines stop at the station, and parking at Union Station East and West is paid.
Tonight in Pomona: Space Taco’s Halloween party
This one goes live the same day you’re reading this. Space Taco House Tuesdays throws its annual Halloween party tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 27, at The Basement in Pomona. Doors are at 8 p.m., it’s 21+, and entry is free with an RSVP and $10 without one. Seek-One, Ty Diamondz, Napona and DJ Bobby are on the bill, and the page promises house music and costumes.
Arts District: Nightmare on 4th Street
For things to do in the Arts District on Halloween night, the free option is Nightmare on 4th Street on Saturday, Oct. 31. It’s 21+ with house and reggaeton from Almostdecent, Sevymon and Calvin. The listing says RSVP before midnight and come in costume and you’re in free. Otherwise it’s $20. The exact location is still “TBA” on the listing.

The costume is the cover charge here, so treat it as part of the ticket. Commit to the bit.
Koreatown rooftop rave, free with RSVP
The Halloween Rooftop Rave is also Saturday, Oct. 31, in Koreatown, free with an RSVP and 21+. Good Trouble, Risk-E, Sklusive and MoonGoon play baile funk, ghetto tech, festival trap and global club music. The location is still “TBA” on the listing, so we can’t tell you where it is yet.

Westlake: Sound Resonance
Sound Resonance’s Halloween party with Tokyo T is Saturday, Oct. 31, in Westlake. It’s tech house, 21+, free with an RSVP before 10 p.m. and $18 to $25 after that. The address is on the organizer’s page, so get it there.
We pulled the Arts District, Koreatown and Westlake details from 19hz’s Los Angeles listings. The Resident Advisor and Posh event pages blocked our automated check, so read the organizer page for the last word before you go.
Sunday morning: walk past the “Thriller” house
Los Angelistas, a walking group, takes its Halloween walk through Angelino Heights on Sunday, Nov. 1. Meet at 9:30 a.m., and the walk starts at 9:45. It’s free. LAist reports it’s a women-only walk, with kids and pets welcome.

Angelino Heights is a tiny neighborhood next to Echo Park, known for its Victorian homes. Some of them have been film and TV sets, including the house in Michael Jackson’s 1983 “Thriller” video, which is a stop on the walk. If the group isn’t for you, Carroll Avenue is a public street and you can walk it alone. The Thriller house is somebody’s home. Look from the sidewalk, keep your voice down and stay out of the driveways.
House rules for the free list
- “Free with RSVP” means you RSVP. Show up without one and you may pay.
- 21+ means a real ID at the door.
- “Free before midnight in costume” means the costume is the cover charge.
- We haven’t confirmed that any of these still have room. Check the listing on the day.
- Halloween isn’t the only holiday this week. Our guide to Día de los Muertos in Los Angeles covers the free, neighborhood-run events, from Wednesday’s evening at Grand Park to the big block party on Nov. 7.

How do I get to Boonion Station at Union Station?
Take the Metro A, B, D or J line directly to Union Station. Paid parking is available at Union Station East and West. The event is on the South Patio.
Can I visit the “Thriller” house in Angelino Heights?
You can see the outside from the public sidewalk, and the Los Angelistas walk on Nov. 1 stops there. It’s a private home, so don’t go on the property, block the driveway or make noise.
